Dinner Rolls

You can call them anything from Dinner Rolls to Milk Buns to Butter Buns or as we Indians call it "Ladi Pav". These rolls are so versatile that you could use them for your lunch as sliders or as a side dish in your dinners. Indians use these rolls as Pav for a very famous and lip smacking Street food of India called "Pav Bhaji".

These are soft and fluffy with pillowy texture and buttery flavour.

Very simple and easy to make, this should be in everybody's recipe book.

Here's how it is made.

Ingredients:

  • 1¼ cup milk, warm

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 7 grams dry yeast

  • 3 cup (450 grams) plain flour

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp butter, softened

Method:

  • Firstly, activate the yeast by combining milk, sugar and dry yeast in a mixing bowl.

  • Once the yeast has risen add flour and salt.

  • Knead until the dough turns soft and firm. Roughly about 6-8 minutes.

  • Add butter and knead the dough again for about a couple of minutes.

  • Cover with cling wrap and rest for 2 hours in a warm place. The dough should rise in double the size.

  • Knead the dough and punch it down.

  • Divide the dough in small ball sizes. I could make roughly 15 balls of dough. You could divide according to your preference.

  • Place the balls into a greased tray. Place them leaving equal spaces in between for them to proof further.

  • Brush the dough with milk or butter gently.

  • Now cover with cling wrap and allow to rest for another 20 minutes or until the dough reaches the brim of the tray.

  • Preheat the oven and bake at 180°C for 20 minutes, or until the rolls turn golden brown in colour.

  • Once the rolls are out of the oven, rub them with butter to get a shiny look.

  • Your dinner rolls are ready to roll.

Enjoy!!!
