This is an Indian dessert made from vermicelli. A simple sweet dish for one of those days when you are craving for some homemade goodness.
An unmissable sweet companion of our growing up years, this dish used to be the go-to dessert during all Indian festivals and special occasions.
Here's how it is made:
Ingredients:
1 litre Milk
1 cup Vermicelli
1 cup Water
1 cup Sugar
3 tablespoons Cashew nuts, halved
3 tablespoons Raisins
2 tablespoon dry coconut, chopped
1/4 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
2 tablespoons Clarified butter or Ghee.
1 tablespoons almonds, cut lengthwise for garnish
Method:
In a heavy bottom saucepan, add clarified butter.
Add cashews and raisins and on medium-low heat, saute for 45 seconds until the raisins puff up like balloons and cashews turn light golden in colour.
Now add the vermicelli and roast for a couple of minutes on low flame.
Once the vermicelli is roasted, add milk and sugar and bring it boil.
Add cardamom powder and cook until the desired consistency is achieved.
The consistency can be adjusted by adding water in small quantities if it's too thick.
Switch off the flame.
This dish can be served in both hot and cold form.
When serving, garnish with chopped almonds.
Here's to homemade goodness folks!
